6th-Grade Transition to Middle School
Diana Garcia is leading the 6th-Grade transition to middle school. Diana is working with a team of administrators and teachers to thoroughly plan for this move. This team is meeting on Oct. 28 and Dec. 2. She is also leading community meetings on Nov. 13 at Pacific Middle School and Dec. 11 at Cascade Middle School. Meetings are scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m. Many elementary teachers have asked if they meet the state requirements to teach at the middle school level. The Human Resource Office has reviewed the files of teachers in Highline who currently teach in grades four, five, and six to identify "highly qualified" teachers for grades six, seven, and eight in science, reading, math,  English Language Arts and history.

Soon, teachers will be receiving the first of two letters explaining whether they are designated "highly qualified" to teach at middle school. Teachers will receive a follow-up letter asking if they are interested in moving to middle school.

In November, there will be meetings to provide teachers with additional information and respond to questions that you may have about this process. If you are interested in moving to middle school, please attend one of the November meetings. Dates of these meetings will be sent soon.
