Compensation Good News for 2016-17!
You received a raise this school year. In September, the WA COLA of 1.8 percent on your base salary began. The HEA bargained TRI increase of 4.5 percent will be in the October paycheck. It was scheduled for the November, however you will see the increase early. There will be a TRI retro pay for September as well. Your TRI compensation increased from 23 percent of your base salary to 27.5 percent of your base salary. Make sure to read your paystub every month!
HEA/HSD New Substitute Salary Schedule
HEA/HSD made progress on a long overdue new substitute salary schedule. One important change includes compensating substitutes for covering a class not part of their originally assigned job. Click here for the letter of agreement.

HEA ROCKS - Brat Trot
The HEA ROCKS team participated in the annual Brat Trot sponsored by Highline Schools Foundation. HEA sponsored a team of 40 HEA members! Consider joining the HEA ROCKS team next fall!
What is a VEBA Account?
VEBA Trust offers two separate health reimbursement arrangement plan designs: the Standard HRA Plan and the Post-separation HRS Plan. All HEA members could have the opportunity to open a VEBA account.
After educating members on the possible opportunity that VEBA offers, we would hold an all membership vote to determine if HEA employees will join VEBA. The outcome of the vote will be the same for all members. If the membership votes in support, all HEA educators would open a VEBA account. All HEA members will have the opportunity to vote on VEBA during Spring 2017.

Q: When do teachers receive pay for class size overload?
A: Class size mitigation compensation begins on Oct. 1. Payment begins in the Nov. 30 paycheck.
Q: What is the class size for general education classroom teachers?
A: Class size information for general educators can be found on pages 30-31 of the HEA/HSD CBA. Mitigation compensation is on pages 32-33.
Q: What are the Job Alike days?
A: Sept. 23, Oct. 21 (optional), Jan. 13, Feb. 17, March 24 (optional), April 21 (optional) and May 19. The calendar is on the district website as well.
THE HEA/HSD Collective Bargaining Agreement will be available on the HEA website.
