The Joint Bargaining Team has met six times this spring. The largest lift is the SALARY SCHEDULE. We hope you are VERY aware that our Joint Team is tasked with creating new certificated salary schedule given the decisions made by our Washington State Legislature. We no longer have a State Salary Schedule. Additional topics identified beyond compensation include calendar (tentative SY 18-19 is posted), substitute salaries, PCT job-alikes, class size and caseload, planning time, teacher leadership, student discipline, Association release days, impact of high school schedule change, IP grades, personal leave, Advisory, library management time/para support, secondary counselor allocation, concern resolution protocol, WA paid family leave, Association rights and information, physical plant safety, class overloads for elementary specialists, caseload overload for LRC, staff meetings, hiring process for school staff, and all current Letters of Agreement for review/update. Any current committee recommendations will be considered as well. Our HEA Team will be working together on June 11 in preparation for our August Bargaining days. The joint bargaining teams are meeting May 23, Aug. 6, 10 and 17. We will keep you informed if additional days are scheduled.
Your HEA representatives include Larcy Amorelle, Richard Dunn, Christina Smith, Thara Cooper, Marty Shorb, Veronica Fairchild, Rich Coker, Elizabeth Beck and Sue McCabe.
HEA BarGAINing Survey
Many thanks to those of you who dedicated time to taking the HEA Bargaining Survey last month and/or joined in the HEA bargaining listening sessions! Approximately 40 percent of our members responded to the survey, which is a strong response rate in the world of surveys and gives our bargaining team very solid information to work with. Read the survey summary
On behalf of the bargaining team, thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully give input on your priorities for this contract cycle. We know it was a LONG survey -- the average response time was 35(!) minutes -- but the results are so valuable to us when we advocate for HEA members' collective interests at the bargaining table.
