Hello, Brothers and Sisters:

As you know, our bargain this year is vital. If we want to be able to afford to live in the areas where we teach, support our families with healthcare, and have tenable working conditions, we need to support our bargainers. We give our all for our students every day. It is time that we are supported by professional compensation levels for the job that we do as educators. We don't have a salary schedule anymore under the new state funding allocation, so it is only through bargaining that we can ensure there is professional compensation. The state has provided Highline Public Schools significant increased funding, but we will not see an improvement in our salaries or class size unless we fight for it.

We NEED your help. When we show up as a unit, it shows the District that we are paying attention, and can motivate them to come to an agreement sooner. It is VITAL that we show up and let the District know that we care about our compensation and working conditions.

The summer is when many changes can happen -- when it seems that we as educators are not paying attention. Showing our support in the summer is vital to helping us get a professional level of compensation and working conditions in order to best support our students.

Bargaining Support Rallies and Actions

We need your support! Please let us know on the Google Form which of the following events you can attend and support. Wear Red to support public education.
  1. Friday, Aug. 10, 7:30 a.m. at ERAC -- Bargaining starts at 8 a.m. We will be cheering on our bargaining team before they start their bargaining for the day, and will then start the day with a 5K fun run, with donations we raise supporting the WEA Children's Fund. We need VOLUNTEERS to sign-up people for the run, monitor the road crossings on the route, provide water at the end, and be on call for first aid. Sign up here. For those who are interested, we will be going to Burien Press afterwards for some fellowship with each other.
  2. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 6 p.m. at ERAC -- HSD School Board Meeting! We will know more about our progress at the BarGAINing Table. HEA will host food at Azteca at 5 p.m. We need HEA members in attendance to show our school board that we are standing united.
  3. Friday, Aug. 17, 7:30 a.m. at ERAC -- Bargaining starts at 8 a.m. We will be providing breakfast, and cheering on our bargaining team before they start their bargaining for the day. We need VOLUNTEERS to provide breakfast for our team. (We are looking for baked goods, fruit, some kind of protein, and juice). Sign up here.

We will also be updating the membership at our General Membership Meeting Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Highline Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 4:30 p.m. This meeting will be important for us to give you updates, and to talk about next steps we might have to take depending on what happens in the bargaining in the summer.

In Solidarity,
Your BarGAINing Support Team Leads -- Renee Agatsuma, Sandy Hunt, Grace Whitney
