A packed house!
WAY TO GO HEA! We packed the school board meeting on March 12! Our voices need to be heard. Our expertise needs to be used.
HEA Members packed the March 12 school board meeting to express their thoughts and concerns over the evaluation bills being considered in Olympia during the last week of the Washington legislative session. Each speaker offered a different slice of our story so we didn't hear the same message over and over. Please thank your colleagues for speaking up for Highline students and staff. Courageous speakers include: Amy Hepburn (Mount View), James Boutin (ACE HS), Jeb Binns (HHS), Richard Dunn (Beverly Park), Christina Smith (Beverly Park), Sandy Hunt (HEA VP/Joint Evaluation Team), Katrina Erni (Hilltop Dual Language) and Sue McCabe (HEA President). Read statements presented at the board meeting.
We are looking for speakers on topics that impact and involve students and staff to build on our "School Board Connections." Please consider sharing your experiences at a school board meeting. We need to share everything that our system is doing "right" and the areas that need improvement. The individuals in the classrooms are the best at articulating what is going on in the classroom. We need you to share your knowledge!
Contact Sue McCabe if you'd like to help.
Many of you received a newsletter update from our WEA President Kim Mead last week. To repeat: Our evaluation system will not change for the upcoming year. While our lawmakers considered requiring standardized test scores to be a part of our evaluation, the session ended without action on this item. We will be continuing the implementation of our current evaluation system as negotiated last summer 2013.

HEA Mid-Year Social
Approximately 50 HEA members joined the fun on March 5 at Elliott Bay Brewhouse and Pub! Drawings for door prizes included gift certificates for Elliott Bay, Page 2 Books, Grand Central Bakery and Mick Kelly’s! We had a large showing from Sylvester, Pacific and Beverly Park members. Thanks for coming, everyone. We're planning for another gathering in the near future. Stay tuned.
HEA/HSD Committees are being formed to work toward addressing needed changes as identified by the joint bargaining process.
