TRI News for 2017-18
HEA employees will receive a TRI increase this school year. In September, the state cost-of-living adjustment of 2.3 percent on your base salary began. HEA/HSD are working to agree on a final number for TRI. As soon as this happens, communication will be sent to all members. Make sure to read your pay stub every month!
A health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) is a spending account you can use to cover medical care expenses and retiree premiums. Full-time educators -- payroll deductions of $50 per month begins Nov. 30.
All HEA will open a VEBA account. There is nothing you need to do to open an account. HSD/VEBA coordinate together. Visit veba.org for more information.
Your HEA Building Representative will have more information for you soon! Look for fliers in your mailbox. Emily Spencer, a VEBA representative, will be available at the next HEA Rep Council meeting to answer questions. The meeting is Monday, Nov. 6, at 4:15 p.m. at ERAC.

HEA announces Fall 2017 HEA Member Grants for up to $100. We initiated member grants last spring. Apply by Nov. 28. Download application.

HEA Committee Appointments
We need your voice and experience! We need high school representation on the Evaluation team. We also need special education representation on the Assessment Team. These teams make recommendations to the joint HEA/HSD Bargaining Teams. If you are interested in representing your HEA member colleagues on the Assessment or Evaluation teams, please contact Sue McCabe.
Burien City Council Election
HEA WEA-PAC members endorsed Burien City Council candidates Krystal Marx, Jimmy Matta and Nancy Tosta. Our endorsed candidates are doorbelling and phone banking and would love educator support. And be sure to vote!
The campaign welcomes all volunteers! They meet every evening from now to Election Day at Tijuana Restaurant, 1841 S. 120th St., in Burien, to phone bank and distribute walk lists, 4:30-6:30 p.m., sometimes later. Here is a list of events. On Nov. 5, Sen. Rebecca Saldaña and the King County Democrats will join us.
