HEA Members,

Thank you again for all of your incredible solidarity and support of our HEA bargaining team! This was truly a team effort.

Please come to the General Membership Meeting to get the details and read the documents.

General Membership Meeting

4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12
Highline Performing Arts Center, 401 S. 152nd St., in Burien

Doors will open at 3:45 so that HEA members can sign in and review TA documents.

We will present and explain the TA in its entirety, followed by ratification discussion and debate and voting on the agreement. There will be a VEBA vote as well. The HEA Bargaining Team and Executive Board look forward to seeing you there!  We must have a quorum to ratify a contract. Looking forward to seeing you there!

HEA ROCKS Team at Brat Trot

Interested in the Highline Foundation Brat Trot? Join the HEA ROCKS team! HEA will sponsor up to 50 members to participate in the Brat Trot. It would be great to see a RED HEA TEAM on the course. Wear your HEA T-shirt while running/walking the Brat Trot. If you are interested in participating on the HEA ROCKS TEAM, use this link.
  • Select “Join a Team”, sign the waiver and push “continue."
  • Select the “Highline Education Association” Team from the drop-down menu. Should select ‘Burien Brat Trot 5K as the sub event and push "continue."
  • On the next screen, fill in your registrant information. The next field is "Promo Code". It should be pre-populated with "HEARocks." However, if it is not, please type it in there.
  • Select your T-shirt size and then select "continue." When you get to the next screen it should show the event fee as $37 and the promotional code as -$37 for a total cost of $0. Confirm your registration.
  • This code will be in place until Thursday, Sept. 27.
We hope the amazing Madrona P.E. teacher, James Roach, runs on the HEA ROCKS TEAM. He has won the Brat Trot several times. Both James Roach, Madrona, and Jeb Binns, HHS, planned out the Aug. 10 HEA Bargaining Day 5K. We look forward to James and Jeb leading the HEA ROCKS Team.

Why I am an HEA member ...

"I'm a member because workers only have power when they are united."
-- Eric Greve
Tyee High School

I lose sleep at night about teaching. I'd love to say it's because I'm dreaming up cool lesson plans, but most often it's rehashing how I dealt with (last, first)'s most recent outburst and how I could have handled it better. Fortunately, there's a group of people out there worried about the trivial things like making sure I'm adequately compensated, have good heath insurance and the like. Also, they have my back when that interaction goes *really* sideways."
