++++++++++++++++++++++SPECIAL LOCAL ELECTIONS ISSUE++++++++++++++++++++++++++

October 15, 2021

Dear Members,

Your students and your community so appreciate you!  I hear only words of praise and of thanks wherever I go.  Please know we are fighting for the resources you need to be safe and sane this year.  Daily substitutes have received a $65/day increase in compensation for this year to stay in front of the competition from other area school districts.  This means emergency substitutes will earn approximately $210/day with a bachelor’s degree and puts the regular daily rates at approx. $245 and $265. Building-based substitute teachers along with additional staffing are also being explored to alleviate the pressures everyone is experiencing due to student and staff absences this year.

HEA is hosting a meet-and-greet for local candidates who we have endorsed in the upcoming election. Your ballots should be in your mailbox – please take the time to VOTE

We hope you will take advantage of the leg work educators have done this year to bring forward candidates that have our backs!  To do so, please visit the Our Voice website for county and local candidate recommendations in your area and around the state.

My best to each of you,
