Dear Supporter,

Your electronic signature on your individual employment contract is required to secure a job in the district next school year.  Due to technical difficulties, the deadline to sign your contract has been extended to Tuesday, May 10 at 11:59PM.  HR has indicated the district is not inclined to release you from your contract if you find another job, so please take that into consideration when signing.

Unlike some other districts, there are no excess employees (RIFs) due to lack of enrollment, although there will be a few programmatic changes in several high schools that impact specialized roles.  Principals should have notified you if you are going to be displaced to another building.  Adjustments to assignments based on enrollment will continue to take place up until October 1, 2022.

The voluntary transfer window is open until the end of June, after which time, transfers can still happen, but open positions must be applied for directly. This year, placements will start with Southern Heights educators who will be displaced due to their school’s closure, followed by any other mandatory displacements, followed by voluntary transfers.  Again, if you see a job over the summer that you wish to transfer into, you will need to apply directly.  Sending an email to the receiving principal about your interest is also helpful.  HR will continue to allow transfers into early August so don’t hesitate to apply in-house for jobs that open up even after you sign your contract.

Thank you for all you are doing to support each other and our students!
In solidarity,
Sandy

P.S. Wearing your HEA T-shirt at school on Wednesdays and at an event like this is a great way to show union solidarity and support your bargaining team. T-Shirts were delivered to buildings last week.  If you still need one, please email Portia Robinson directly with your size.

2. CBA Bargaining Update

This year’s negotiations got underway on Friday, April 29 with a joint bargainer training and opportunity for the team members to get to know one another and set working agreements.

The joint bargaining team will be meeting throughout May and June and are prepared to return to the table in August, if needed.  In our member survey, compensation and increased student support polled as our members’ two highest priorities.  The team will also consider the recommendations being brought by our joint committees, as well as continue to address pandemic-related working conditions and health needs.

Virtual general membership meeting dates have been set for June 30 and/or August 30, in the late afternoon most likely. Watch for a registration link next month sent to personal emails and be sure to register and attend virtually.

3. Upcoming HSD School Board Meetings, Work Sessions, and Retreat
